Modern day worship and even biblical illustrations of angels’ praise seem to put God in the “remind me who I am” box. I mean, c’mon, if you knew a ruler who demanded that the people shout “praises” to him like “you are worthy to be my king”, “you are good”, “you are great” and so on, you would think that king has to be some sort of narcissist — which usually, in my opinion, is a mask for low self esteem.
However, I believe that God is fully aware of how awesome He is. He is not insecure. He does not need to be reminded who He is. I’d like to assert that His desire for worship is to help us remind ourselves who He is. “You are able,” “You are my source,” “with You all things are possible.” We regain our focus and hope when we tell ourselves who God really is.
So my question to you is, when you really think about it, isn’t praise and worship really for us?
